Zs' Sam Hillmer Prepping Diamond Terrifier Album for Terrible Records

Brooklyn skronk trio Zs just announced their upcoming Grain, but there's apparently more music on the way from band leader Sam Hillmer this year. The experimental saxophonist has revealed he's working on a new LP under his Diamond Terrifier guise.

Hillmer's first Diamond Terrifier LP is called The Subtle Body Has a Shadow, and it will arrive through Gizzly Bear dude Chris Taylor's Terrible Records imprint this spring. Taylor also produced the album.

A press release notes that the set follows last year's mini-LP Kill the Self That Wants to Kill Yourself and is composed of a half-hour composition split up into four movements. Hillmer's horns-and-electronics song cycle is said to feature textures of ambient and drone music with African saxophone traditions and dance styles like Juke and footwork.

The theme of the piece, meanwhile, is "concerned with the darker, fiercer side of spiritual practice."

There's no firm due date just yet, but you can check out a collaboration between Diamond Terrifier and Kirin J. Callanan below.
