Yusuf / Cat Stevens has announced his 17th studio album, previewed by new single "Take the World Apart."

Almost a decade in the making, King of a Land reigns June 16 via George Harrison's Dark Horse / BMG. It follows 2014's Tell 'Em I'm Gone, as well as the 2020 remake of Tea for the Tillerman.

"Looking at the jagged journey of my music, beginning as I did in the '60s, I would say this new record is a mosaic," Yusuf said in a statement. "A very clearly defined description of where I've been and who I am."

With longtime producer and former Yardbirds bassist Paul Samwell-Smith, the singer-songwriter began working on King of a Land in Berlin in 2011 and did additional sessions in Brussels, Provence, London and his Dubai home studio. "Most of the songs started with me playing and recording everything at home in the garage — it's as close as you can get to being inside my head," Yusuf explained.

Singsong lead single "Take the World Apart" is a plea for peace that arrives alongside an animated video by Peter Reynolds.
