Published Jan 23, 2013Vancouver indie rocker Greg Pothier currently leads the multi-membered garage troupe Dirty Spells, but also moonlights in the studio with another enormous pop crew called the Young & Reckless. This time around, Pothier's focusing on the softened sounds of '60s pop, as evidenced by the troupe's three-song, self-titled EP.
The mini-effort was tracked at Chains of Love/Vancouver studio guru Felix Fung's Little Red Sounds, and likewise features guest musicians from that retro-flavoured act, as well as the Ballantynes, the Radii, Dirty Spells, Pleasure Cruise, Fine Times and more. The songs favour lilting string arrangements, gently go-going rhythms and hushed female vocals, and fit somewhere between Belle and Sebastian's twee-soul and a batch of uncovered Lulu recordings.
