Young Braised Returns with 'y' Album, Premieres New Video

After delivering Japanese Tendencies and Northern Reflections through Vancouver's beloved and much-missed 1080p, self-described "post-swag" hip-hop guru Young Braised (a.k.a. Jaymes Bowman) is set to return with some new tunes this month.

Titled y, Bowman's latest will arrive independently on May 15. A press release reveals that the record is over two years in the making, as well as a project that Bowman regards as "not only as a reflection, but an expression, of the self."

Described also as "as a collection of meditative, if not subconscious, free verse poetry," y will explore "balance between binaries like private/public, emotional/intellectual, and innocence/awareness" that have characterized both his recorded output and performance.

In the lead-up to the release, Young Braised is premiering a video for album cut "Lobster Salad," created by Strawberry Jacuzzi. You can watch it play out at the bottom of the page. It marks the first of three planned single-shot videos by Strawberry Jacuzzi in support of the album.

While production credits aren't immediately available, a statement notes that "experienced listeners will be rewarded for their familiarity with the Vancouver "scene" and consideration of his previous collaborations with Terio, members of Portland Compressor, and Mood Hut's Hashman Deejay."

Along with the digital release, the record will also arrive physically as a "deconstructed compact disc," which you can pick up here.

While we wait for the arrival of y, take in the video for "Lobster Salad" in the player below, where you can also find the audio-only version of the track.
