Wolf Parade's Spencer Krug Puts Sunset Rubdown on Ice While Dan Boeckner Gets Busy with Handsome Furs

With their third album, Expo 86, on the brink of release, Wolf Parade have endured quite the busy month. Still, co-frontmen and lead singers Dan Boeckner and Spencer Krug have their respective side-projects in the back of their minds. However, as they recently revealed in an Exclaim! interview, they see very different futures for their non-Wolf Parade ventures.

Boeckner, for one, is keeping himself more than a little busy with Handsome Furs, his project with partner Alexei Perry. "I'm not [slowing down]," he explains. "I'm working on new Handsome Furs stuff. I'm working on a handful of new songs, a new setup for the band and instrumentation, so... I'm actually insanely busy right now."

Handsome Furs' last album was 2008's Face Control, but if Boeckner's as busy as he seems, it might not be long before another.

As for Krug, his work schedule seems much less strenuous. "I'm taking it easy, is the short answer," he says, "but the long answer is that I am kind of fooling around with ideas for another Moonface recording... I'm working on some new stuff for that, guitar and vocal kind of stuff. It's the same as like, sitting around doing crosswords, it's very relaxing."

Then, Krug explained the difference between Boecker's methods and his own.

"I think he goes a little fuller tilt than I do," Krug says. "In the Wolf Parade time off, I think he wants to be doing as much as he can with Handsome Furs, whereas my equivalent to Handsome Furs is Sunset Rubdown, and I don't think we'll be working in the time off from Wolf Parade this year. I think we're on hiatus."

As for Wolf Parade, Expo 86 is out Tuesday (June 29) courtesy of Sub Pop and the band have an extensive North American tour on the horizon. You can see all the group's dates here.
