Will Smith Passed on Playing Neo in 'The Matrix' Because the Wachowskis Didn't Pitch It Properly

Will Smith will now forever be known as the terrible-looking genie in Disney's Aladdin remake. But before he blue himself, he almost potentially ruined another beloved movie by playing Neo in The Matrix.

Since Smith is basically a full-time YouTuber now, he took to his vlog to discuss why he passed on the iconic noughties role. Ultimately, it all boils down to a bad pitch from the Wachowskis.

According to the video, the director duo spent their whole pitch meeting explaining the bullet-dodging technology they had planned for the film (which, admittedly, is among its most iconic shots). Smith wasn't sold, and while he said that the Wachowskis are geniuses he added, "There's a fine line between genius and what I experienced in the meeting."
