Will Smith and DJ Jazzy Jeff's New Track "Get Lit" Is Anything But

The two debuted the song at the UK's Livewire Festival

Will Smith and DJ Jazzy Jeff haven't released a new track since unreleased cut "Lovely Daze" was included on a hits comp from the duo in 1998. Over the weekend in the UK, though, the two debuted a song that has yet to be released, but it might be better locked away in the vault.

As fan-shot footage from the Livewire Festival in Blackpool, England, shows, the two debuted a new song titled "Get Lit," meant to "brighten up the darkness in this world." As NME reports, Smith told the crowd that the song was written in response to "chaos and confusion" in these current times.

Smith reportedly said: "I wanted to make a song that allowed people to let their light shine. We all have an inner light and sometimes this world…people can say stuff to you and tell you you can't do and you know you can but when they tell you that it kinda knocks you down a bit right so I wanted to make a record that reminded each and every one of y'all to let your light shine."

While the sentiment is undoubtedly admirable, the track itself isn't half as inspiring. In the video below, a reggae-tinged intro gives way to some steady kickdrum before a bass drop triggers pyro and steam cannon displays, while Smith raps, "My army, we like to party / We smart and artsy and we get lit." He later works in a line for the summer blockbuster crowd, rapping, "We ain't part of your Megatrons, we transform and get lit."

Take in the footage below and perhaps reserve any judgement you may have for the impending studio version of "Get Lit."
