Wilco Detail New 'Speak into the Rose' EP
Published Nov 23, 2011The steady stream of new music just keeps on coming from Wilco. The dependable alt-country experimenters recently earned our mark of approval with their latest LP, The Whole Love, which we called "another brilliant display of refined musicality and playful, purposefully optimistic songwriting." Now, the band have detailed another new release in the form of the Speak into the Rose EP.
This ten-inch record includes four songs. Two of these -- the title track plus "Message from Mid-Bar" -- were previously available on the deluxe edition of The Whole Love. There's also an alternate version of the LP opener "Art of Almost," plus a demo cut of recent single "I Might."
The EP is being released this week (November 25) via Wilco's own dBpm Records as part of Record Store Day's Black Friday festivities. It's only fitting, given the vinyl-friendly nature of the event, that the EP will come on heavyweight translucent red vinyl. To make this even cooler, Anti- reports that 30 copies will come with a special sticker that grants the lucky buyer a poster signed by Wilco frontman Jeff Tweedy.
RSD's Black Friday event typically only occurs in the U.S., but the announcement also notes that the EP will be sold at "independent music retailers worldwide." In other words, it's not impossible that this will make its way into Canada.
