On top of having quirky plot points and a recurring cast of actors, Wes Anderson's movies tend to have pretty solid soundtracks. Hoping to keep up tradition and following classics like the Seu Jorge-showcasing The Life Aquatic with Steve Zissou and the Kinks-equipped The Darjeeling Limited, a new soundtrack has been announced for the director's next film, Moonrise Kingdom.
The movie opens in New York and L.A. on May 25, with a wider release reportedly taking place in June, but the soundtrack will be issued May 22 through ABKCO. This time around, the song selection includes a cuts from Hank Williams, Françoise Hardy, Leonard Bernstein and Benjamin Britten.
Alexandre Desplat, who helped score Anderson's 2009 animated film Fantastic Mr. Fox, also composed a new suite for the film. However, those hoping for the return of Anderson's old scoring partner, Mark Mothersbaugh, will again be disappointed to learn that the Devo member is once again absent from this soundtrack. You can check the Moonrise Kingdom tracklisting down below.
As for the film, here's the plot summation from its website: "Set on an island off the coast of New England in the summer of 1965, Moonrise Kingdom tells the story of two 12-year-olds who fall in love, make a secret pact, and run away together into the wilderness."
On top of mainstays Bill Murray and Jason Schwartzman, the cast also includes Bruce Willis, Edward Norton, Frances McDormand and Tilda Swinton. You can watch the film's trailer below.
