We're a Saskatchewan Band, Dammit! The Deep Dark Woods Hit the Road and Spread the Word

BY Jason SchreursPublished Jul 7, 2009

Saskatoon alt-country rockers the Deep Dark Woods will spend this summer on the road, hitting the Canadian and U.S. festival circuit along the way, promoting their latest album, Winter Hours.

The four-piece have already done supporting slots for the Sadies, Steve Earle, Utah Phillips and Montreal's the Stills, so it's safe to say some out-of-town headlining gigs are overdue. Winter Hours, released by Black Hen Music (Steve Dawson, Geoff Berner, Jim Byrnes, etc.), is their third full-length and has received more than its fair share of rave reviews. In fact, we gave it Exclaim!'s mark of excellence.

In other Deep Dark news, the band recently appeared on CBC Radio's Definitely Not the Opera and were referred to in the show log as a "Calgary band." Ouch!

But fear not, the Deep Dark Woods will have plenty of time on the road - July through October - including a four-day stopover at the Calgary Folk Festival, to let people know that they are, in fact, from Saskatoon.
