"Anthems for a Seventeen Year-Old Girl" is the best Broken Social Scene song — according to us, anyway — and in an expression of Toronto indie rock solidarity, Metric covered it last night (August 26) during a hometown show at Budweiser Stage.

Metric singer Emily Haines is, of course, a BSS member and the singer of "Anthems," so she brought a lot of the original song's energy to the performance. Naturally, the live arrangement is more stripped-down and doesn't have the intricate production details of 2002's You Forgot It in People.

Technically, Metric have played "Anthems for a Seventeen Year-Old Girl" before; according to setlist.fm, they played it twice in 2009 during acoustic sets. There's no record of them having played in any form since.

Watch the performance down below. Read Exclaim!'s list of the 20 best Broken Social Scene songs, and see Emily Haines's own ranking of the five best Metric songs. Metric released their album Formentera earlier this summer.

Last night's show also featured sets from Interpol, Spoon and Bartees Strange.
