Waster

'Grip of the Hand' (album stream)

Winnipeg's Waster are getting ready to, well, waste you with the metallic sounds off their impending Grip of the Hand album. But before the album officially blasts your face off May 13 via the Newform Label, you can sample the damage ahead of time with a full stream on Exclaim.ca.

The record kicks off with mini-wrecker "The Giver," which steadily builds from a tom-tom rumble and spacious and sinister power chords into a relentlessly oppressive barrage of dive bombs and mad-man howls.

Throughout the rest of the set, the group explore swampy, Southern-styled grooves and trilled-out six-strings riffery on the ritualistic "Burn Ceremony," deliver limber-fingered solos on chaotic crossover cuts "The Taker" and "No Reckoning," and present a slow-mo arrangement of Sabbathisms and Phil Anselmo-esque screams on the epic and appropriately titled closer "End of All."

You'll hear those songs and more, recorded live in the studio by producer Stu McKillop (Anciients, Baptists) in the player down below.
