The Vaselines Return with First New Studio Album in 20 Years, Share First Single

When Eugene Kelly and Frances McKee reformed the Vaselines in 2008, it was just to play a couple festivals. Then, the band announced the release of an all-encompassing, definitive compilation, in the form of 2009's Enter the Vaselines, and unveiled a slew of tour dates to go with it. Now, fans can get more excited than ever: the Vaselines have announced that they're recording a new album, their first in 20 years.

The duo will follow up their debut and sole LP, 1990's Dum-Dum, with Sex with an X, in the fall of this year. The album is slated for release on September 14 via Sub Pop, who previously released both the The Way of the Vaselines: A Complete History compilation in 1992 and Enter the Vaselines last year.

We also know Sex with an X has a first single, in the form of "I Hate the '80s." The song, which is available now as a free download in the widget below, de-romanticizes the oft-fawned-over decade with lyrics like, "How do you know? You weren't there! It wasn't all Duran Duran Duran Duran. You want the truth? This is it! I hate the '80s 'cause the '80s is shit!"

Thanks to MBV for passing on the track.

On top of the new record, if you live in the UK, the Vaselines have announced a fall tour. You can see all the stops here.
