Vancouver International Film Festival (VIFF) is embracing a hybrid model for its 40th annual instalment, which will take place from October 1 to 11 — with films screening in-person at theatres across Vancouver and online via the VIFF Connect streaming platform. Additionally, VIFF AMP, the festival's Music in Film Summit, has tapped legendary producer and songwriter Linda Perry to give this year's keynote address on October 8.

VIFF AMP scheduling traverses October 8 to 10 and aims to cover every angle of screen music, exploring both the business and art of music in film from every facet of the production process — including composition, artist management, publishing and licensing syncs for film, TV, advertisements and video games.

"Just as music lifts a work of visual media, VIFF AMP seeks to elevate the careers of emerging artists," VIFF AMP co-curator, Tony Scudellari of Sony Pictures Entertainment, said in a statement. "We're excited to present three days of programming loaded with legendary talent, relevant career lessons, valuable connections and meaningful opportunities. The summit is a chance to build bridges between Vancouver's exceptional creative communities and the wider global entertainment community."

Rob Calder, VIFF AMP co-curator and founder of Secret Study, added: "The lineup of speakers assembled for this year represents a diverse range of industry icons and trending trailblazers at the top of their game. Participants will hear from chart-topping producers, the composers behind some of 2021's biggest TV hits, and industry insiders sharing hard-won trade secrets."

Passes to attend VIFF AMP are available at viff.org.

See the full VIFF AMP schedule below and find out more about the 40th VIFF's extensive programming at the festival's website.

For 2021, 80 percent of VIFF's surplus of content is available to stream via VIFF Connect. Limited capacity in-person events will adhere strictly to provincial COVID-19 health and safety protocols. The hybrid model allows unparalleled access to VIFF AMP for music supervisors, composers, filmmakers and musicians worldwide to attend its programming of masterclasses, Q&As, panel discussions and music showcases.
