While Toronto musician Dan Miller spends time playing in groups like No Breakup and Digits, he also has a solo project on the go called Valerie Dour that's just issued its first single, "Dispel."
Put together using cushy, quilted layers of synths and hushed and breathy vocals, the steadily building dance tune brings to mind the more dramatic moments of M83's Saturdays = Youth, or at the very least seems like it could be the climactic scene of a long-lost '80s teen flick, probably revolving around a tense prom standoff.
