Universal To Issue Its Own DVD of Nirvana's 1992 Reading Festival Gig

As we reported yesterday, a DVD of Nirvana's legendary Reading Festival performance from 1992, called Life Takes No Prisoners, will see release on May 4. Well, NME is now reporting that that version of the DVD is a "bootleg" and that Universal Music will be releasing an official DVD of the performance this November, blandly titled Live at Reading.

Apparently Universal's version was "officially sanctioned" by the band's remaining members and will have its video and audio quality restored and remastered. The real question is, was Universal hiding these DVD plans from us all along or did they find their inspiration in this supposed bootleg?

Either way, Nirvana fans are now faced with two options. They can wait until fall to get the crisper, more commercially viable Live at Reading or they can get the legally dubious but infinitely more "grunge" Life Takes No Prisoners next month. Tough choice? Didn't think so.
