Unearthed BL'AST! Recording Session Gets Mixed by Dave Grohl for Southern Lord Release

To the surprise of many, including the band themselves, Santa Cruz hardcore outfit BL'AST! are about to release their first album in 24 years. Titled Blood, the collection of recently unearthed recordings arrives September 3 via Southern Lord.

A press release notes that guitarist Mike Neider found "some mysterious old BL'AST! master tapes" in an abandoned storage locker earlier this year, and opted to send the unreleased material to Southern Lord founder Greg Anderson. The tapes were apparently dusty and deteriorated after being cooped up for over two decades, but were digitized and then sent to Dave Grohl to get a proper mix. Grohl and the band worked the songs over this past June at his Studio 606 in Virginia.

Recorded sometime in the mid-'80s, these are the only songs to feature a lineup including second guitarist William Duvall, formerly of Neon Christ and currently holding down vocal duties in Alice in Chains. A tracklisting has yet to be revealed in full, but the press sheet notes that Blood will feature the tunes "Only Time Will Tell" and "It's in My Blood."

You can catch a grimy sample of what's to come in the album trailer down below.

Influenced by the likes of Black Flag, SSD and more, BL'AST! existed between 1982 and 1990, and issued three LPs during their original run. Their last album was 1989's Take the Manic Ride. The band had also briefly reunited in 2001.
