Ty Segall Gathers 'Ty-Rex' Releases for New Reissue

BY Gregory AdamsPublished Jul 20, 2015

Ty Segall is revisiting his love for Marc Bolan and T. Rex, having announced that he is compiling both of his old Ty-Rex EPs for an expanded LP release. The tweaked-up Ty-Rex arrives as a single LP on November 27 via Goner.

The first Ty-Rex EP arrived as a six-song Record Store Day exclusive in 2011 and included modern takes on classic cuts like The Slider's "Buick Mackane" and A Beard of Stars's "Fist Heart Might Dawn Dart." A follow-up 7-inch from 2013, which likewise landed on Record Store Day, added covers of "The Motivator" and "Cat Black (The Wizard's Hat)."

The upcoming expanded set brings together those eight songs and adds Segall's previously unreleased cover of T. Rex's "20th Century Boy," which had been delivered by Bolan and his crew on 1973's Tanx.

You can stream the Ty-Rex version of "Buick Mackane" down below, and peep the top hat-heavy, Slider-styled artwork up above.

Segall will also be staging a Ty-Rex performance at Memphis, TN's Gonerfest, which runs September 24 to 27.
