Ty Segall Announces 'The Manipulator' LP, North American Tour

BY Gregory AdamsPublished Jun 9, 2014

If you thought Bay Area psych-garage busybody Ty Segall had lost his prolific touch in 2014, guess again. Another full-length effort from the artist is heading our way this summer, and it will be called The Manipulator.

Official news of the LP arrived today (June 9), with the record set up with an August 26 due date through Drag City, just a few days off of the one-year anniversary of his 2013 set Sleeper.

According to a press release, the solo artist is "reaching ever further to the outer limits of inner space" that he "orbited" on previously releases and "kept writing, laying down more tracks than ever" this time around. Fittingly, the album weighs in at a hefty 17 songs. The artist is also said to have pulled influence from Neil Young, Black Sabbath, the Stooges and the Rolling Stones, among others.

Though cuts from the sessions have yet to be unveiled in full, you can hear snippets of fuzz-laced rockers and at least one acoustic ballad in an album trailer, which finds a glammed-out Segall driving a cast of characters around in a limousine. You'll find the explosive preview down below, and the album art up above.

Segall will be supporting the set with a massive tour, which includes a stop at Pop Montreal on September 20 and a show at Toronto's Danforth Music Hall the following night. You'll see the show info beneath The Manipulator's tracklisting.
