Twintone

Parallel Universe

BY Oksana KolibabaPublished Oct 1, 2000

German producer Volker Thiel brings us his version of the drum & bass flava‚ with Twintone's debut album, Parallel Universe. The first track positions us to receive incoming signals, transporting us into what cult author Robert Anton Wilson would call "The Universe Next Door." Once there, be prepared for the onslaught of relentless and mechanical beats, which give structure to "Refraction." "Cell-Renewal" has a hypnotising effect and I caution you not to drive or operate heavy machinery with this one playing. "Stalker" is both quick-witted and tight, despite the guttural sounding synth accompaniment. The situation quickly becomes dark and mysterious once you hit "The Junction." Think fast, or you may never find a way out.
