TV on the Radio's Tunde Adebimpe Announces EP with Higgins Waterproof Black Magic Band Project

Back in the spring, TV on the Radio singer Tunde Adebimpe promised that he had an EP on the way with his side-project Higgins Waterproof Black Magic Band. Sure enough, the band have confirmed that their self-titled EP will be out on October 1 via their own ZNA Records.

The EP contains five tracks. The opening cut, "The Blast, the Boom" is streaming below [via Pitchfork]. It's a tunefully soulful track that swells from minimal verses to richly textured choruses.

Higgins Waterproof Black Magic Band features Adebimpe alongside cohorts Ryan Sawyer, Josh Werner and Alex Holden. Adebimpe previously told Spin, "We started doing mostly improvised shows but you do that a few times and songs start coming out of it. It started off pretty noisy and there's still a little bit of that element. It gets tripped out in places. If you like Can or This Heat, you'll probably be into it. We recorded five songs that I'm mixing right now. We'll put them out summer or early fall."

TV on the Radio unveiled their "Mercy" single just a couple of weeks ago, and they announced their departure Interscope earlier this year.
