"tUnE-yArDs Meets Emanon" (Contemporary Color documentary)

BY Alex HudsonPublished May 5, 2015

Next month, David Byrne will bring his "Contemporary Color" events to Toronto and Brooklyn. These shows will feature live musicians performing with colour guard accompaniment, and we can get a glimpse of the dynamic between dancers and musicians thanks to a new mini-documentary focusing on tUnE-yArDs.

The five-minute clip shows tUnE-yArDs mastermind Merrill Garbus meeting her colour guard team, Emanon. This meeting takes place at the WGI World Championships in Dayton, OH, and Garbus talks with the team and even tries out a few colour guard moves herself.

Toronto's "Contemporary Color" shows will be at the Air Canada Centre on June 22 and 23 as part of Luminato. The Brooklyn shows will be at the Barclays Center on June 27 and 28 in association with BAM. In addition to tUnE-yArDs and David Byrne, musical performers include St. Vincent, Devonté Hynes (Blood Orange), Ad-Rock and Money Mark of Beastie Boys, How to Dress Well, Kelis, Nelly Furtado and more.
