In addition to the already excellent original material from A Tribe Called Quest's debut album People's Instinctive Travels and the Paths of Rhythm, an upcoming 25th anniversary re-release features a few bonus cuts. One of them is a remix of early single "Can I Kick It?" from J. Cole. Though the record hits retailers later this week, you may be asking yourself whether it's possible to hear this reinterpretation right now. The answer, obviously, is "yes you can."
Cole doesn't offer up any new rhymes, instead opting to slap some new production onto the classic hip-hop track. While the O.G. sampled the slide bass from Lou Reed's "Walk on the Wild Side," Cole has grafted an especially smooth soul sound to his revamp. Q-Tip, meanwhile, still notes that "this rhythm really fits like a snug glove."
You can hear Q-Tip and Phife Dawg bounce their lines in a whole new way via the stream down below. As previously reported, the deluxe People's Instinctive Travels and the Paths of Rhythm hits stores Friday (November 13) via Legacy Recordings.
