With releases from Evian Christ, Clams Casina, Balam Acab, Hazan Cloak, AlunaGeorge and many others, Tri Angle has proven itself to be a label to watch for the next big, creative producer. Up next, the imprint has lined up a new album from their latest signing Hanz.
Hanz is the nom de plume of Brandon Juhans, a producer born in Georgia and currently based in Durham, SC. The artist's first album for the label is called Reducer.
A press release indicates that the album touches on influences as disparate as RZA, Rammellzee, This Heat and PIL, adding, "At a time when most hip hop production sounds as if it's stuck in preset mode, Reducer feels like a vital injection of creativity, harking back to a time in the past when no sample and no sound was off limits."
Certainly, lead single "Capsule" suggests the album's full of unique twists and turns. In three and a half minutes, the song touches on post-punk, classic hip-hop and noise without sounding disjointed or forced.
Listen to "Capsule" below. Reducer is simply listed as coming soon.
