Since it was unofficially established as the buzz genre of 2010, chillwave has gotten nothing but a bad rap. Besides its admittedly terrible name, the sub-sub-genre is typified by overly sensitive artists who book major tours and then spend their set checking their email in front of a crowded club. North Carolina performer Toro Y Moi (born Chazwick Bundick) is looking to change that with a side project called Les Sins.
While his day job sees him exploring similar heart-wrenching electro-pop territory to his peers, Les Sins is a dancier affair, combining retro rave sounds with a shimmery disco feel. On November 9, Les Sins' debut twelve-inch will get a proper release on Carpark Records. The record will feature "Lina" on the A-side and "Youth Gone" on the flip. Both tracks can be streamed on the label's SoundCloud page.
Hopefully, all of this four-on-the-floor madness will have inspired Bundick to up the ante with his Toro Y Moi live show. The project will be embarking on a hefty European jaunt this October, followed by a North American tour that includes a Canadian stop in Vancouver on November 17.
