Tori Amos has unveiled her plans to release a new studio album Ocean to Ocean, prompted by the profound cataclysm of insurrectionists storming Washington's Capitol this past January 6. It's set to arrive on October 29 via Decca, with a vinyl release to follow in January 2022.

Heralded as the iconic singer-songwriter's most personal work in years, Ocean to Ocean was written during Cornwall's third lockdown. Amos has always been very affected by political upheaval in the U.S., so the attack on the Capitol brought her to a level of personal crisis.

"This is a record about your losses and how you cope with them," the musician shared in a statement.

"Thankfully when you've lived long enough, you can recognize you're not feeling like the mom you want to be, the wife you want to be, the artist you want to be. I realized that to shift this, you have to write from the place where you are. I was in my own private hell, so I told myself, then that's where you write from — you've done it before," she said in reference to her critically acclaimed debut solo album Little Earthquakes, which she released nearly three decades ago.

Amos continued:

We have all had moments that can knock us down. This record sits with you where you are, especially if you are in a place of loss. I'm fascinated when someone has gone through a tragedy, and how they work through their grief — that's where the gold is. When somebody is actually at that place, thinking "I'm done," how do you reach that person? Sometimes it's not about a pill or a double shot of tequila; it's about sitting in the muck together. I'm going to meet you in the muck.

Ocean to Ocean is the follow-up to her 2017 studio record Native Invader, as well as 2020's holiday EP Christmastide

In 2019, Amos published her second memoir Resistance: A Songwriter's Story of Hope, Change and Courage.
