Tom DeLonge on Blink-182: "If I Wanted to, I Could Be Back in a Period of Days"

Everyone scoffed when Tom DeLonge decided to quit Blink-182 and hunt aliens, but he's since won the award for UFO Researcher of the Year. (And to think all that Blink's post-DeLonge album California got them was one measly Grammy nomination.) Now that he's plumbed the depths of Area 51, however, DeLonge seems to be entertaining the thought of rejoining Blink-182.

In a new interview with the San Diego Union Tribune [via NME], DeLonge suggested that he'll certainly reunite with the band at some point in time. "Blink is in my DNA. I talk to Travis quite a bit and we try and figure out how and when it's going to make sense."

DeLonge continued: "It's not like I [permanently] walked away. They have someone doing my job for me [in Blink]. It's just that I'm so busy. If I wanted to, I could be back [in Blink] in a period of days."

DeLonge admitted that he missed his friendship with the band, but was growing tired of their constant touring. "Oh, yeah, I miss the relationship we had, and the growth, and the crazy times," he said. "But I don't miss the grind. Like, every band has a grind, so you have to love it so much that you tolerate the grind.

"And, being on tour was such a grind. I didn't love it enough; it was too much disruption for me. And playing the same songs every night and moving your body [the same way] with your guitar, it felt like you were 'vogue-ing,' like you were faking it. 'Here's the same song again — 1, 2, 3, 4!' I felt like a robot."

Whether or not he rejoins is yet to be seen, but it looks like he's still making some cash off the band's continued success. "I still own the band," he said, explaining that Mark Hoppus, Travis Barker and himself "own everything" Blink-related.
