Published May 12, 2015Tokyo Police Club frontman Dave Monks is stripping himself from the indie pop bounce of his full-time band to present a rootsy solo venture. He'll deliver his All Signs Point to Yes EP on June 16 through Dine Alone.
A press release explains that the artist's seven-song solo debut was crafted in the second half of 2013, following a move from Toronto to Brooklyn. The songs are said to be inspired by "falling in love with a new person and a new place," with these new beginnings steering the songwriter towards different sounds as well. Namely, he began writing stripped-down, acoustic guitar-focused material.
"As I was writing these songs I just thought, 'What if this is the song, what if it just starts with me and I don't have to add anything else and I can embrace all the things that come most naturally to me?'" he explained in a statement. "There's definitely less stuff to hide behind. I think I was learning some of that when we were making [Tokyo Police Club's] Forcefield, to be simple and direct, but it's not always the best when you have three other guys ready to go. You can really strip it back and do that when there's just one."
You can hear the album's first unplugged preview, "Gasoline," down below, via Stereogum. The song is also up for sale on iTunes.
