Tokyo Police Club Gathering Up Covers of Strokes, Phoenix, M83 for New Release

BY Gregory AdamsPublished Sep 1, 2011

Fans of bouncy Ontario indie rockers Tokyo Police Club have no doubt noticed that the band are currently in the midst of an ambitious covers project. Since August 24, the group have been in the recording studio daily laying down covers of hits from the last ten years. While you may have got a kick out of their interpretation of Moby's "Southside" or today's (September 1) take on M83's "Kim & Jessie," you probably noticed that the SoundCloud files they've posted aren't available to download. There's a reason for that. They'll be collecting the covers for a digital release later this fall.

The group will officially release the covers project through their website and via iTunes October 4, courtesy of Dine Alone Records. The collection includes versions of songs made famous by Queens of the Stone Age, the Strokes, Jimmy Eat World and more. On top of the quartet's talents, members of Passion Pit, M83 and Mariachi El Bronx stop by to lend a hand.

While there are still two days left in the project, it's been unveiled that tomorrow's (September 2) song will be Harlem Shakes' 2009 number "Strictly Game." The 2010 song Tokyo Police Club will be celebrating is TBA. Check out the tracklist below.
