Tigercity

"Other Girls"

Though Maroon 5 are trying to bring soft "yacht" rock back to the masses with their uber slick radio pop, there are much better examples of this exciting resurgence going on. Brooklyn's Tigercity are one of the bright hopes, as heard on this stand out track from their debut album, Pretend Not to Love. Their rhythmic precision is as sharp as that of Hall & Oates (the handclaps are straight outta "Private Eyes"!), the synths ooze neon and singer Bill Gillim's falsetto is a spot-on and unabashed nod to Prince, the king of sounding like he just got a foot in his crotch. Call it ironic if you want to be a crusty cynic, but these guys are just what this '80s obsessed world ordered.
