Thrill Jockey Reissues Pullman LPs for Record Store Day

BY Gregory AdamsPublished Feb 25, 2015

Chicago indie imprint Thrill Jockey will be taking part in this year's wax-appreciating Record Store Day event on April 18 by delivering new pressings of a pair of out-of-print LPs from defunct acoustic supergroup Pullman.

A press release confirms that the outfit's two full-length efforts will be back in print for the big day. Both 1998's debut album Turnstiles and Junkpiles and 2001 follow-up Viewfinder have apparently been out of print for over a decade and will come repackaged with download codes.

Formed in Chicago during the late '90s, Pullman comprised Tortoise member and future Brokeback leader Doug McCombs, Chris Brokaw of Come and Codeine, Tortoise's Bundy K. Brown, and Rex's Curtis Harvey. The band favoured "acoustic instrumental music," and took influence from artists including Nick Drake, Leo Kottke, Ry Cooder, King Sunny Ade, Robbie Basho and more.

When it came time to prep 2001's Viewfinder, Slint member David Pajo and drummer Tim Barnes had jumped into the project. As with the original vinyl edition of Viewfinder, the upcoming double LP repress features four extra tracks not found on the original CD.

You'll find the tracklisting info down below.

In related news, McCombs will be taking his Brokeback project on a short North American tour in April. The trek will feature support from fellow Pullman expat Chris Brokaw, and close out with concert appearances in Montreal and Toronto.
