Thom Yorke Is Surprised that People Actually Like Radiohead

BY Sarah MurphyPublished Jun 28, 2016

Despite the fact that Radiohead are a band who fans and critics alike never cease to shut up about, frontman Thom Yorke has admitted that he's surprised by the success of their latest album, A Moon Shaped Pool.

In the new issue of UK music magazine Q, Yorke reveals that he feared fans may have abandoned the band in the five-year wait since their last record. Instead, Radiohead's ninth studio LP is sitting atop the charts once again after seeing vinyl and CD release on June 17.

"We expected the opposite reaction," Yorke said. "I cherish the band, but I don't expect anyone else to."

Well, his low expectations have been more than surpassed, and fans should be able to keep their own expectations high for the group's upcoming live dates if bassist Colin Greenwood's assessment is anything to go by.

"Thom was just amazing," he said, referring to Radiohead's recent Paris show. "It was going a bit wrong at the beginning, but he really pulled me and everyone else together."
