There's Finally a Website to Tell You Whether Your Favourite Bands Are Punk or Not

It's a debate as old as time itself, and one that's shared by 13-year-olds with lip piercings and fat old guys who collect Black Flag vinyl variants — what is punk? How do we define it? Despite Tom DeLonge's best efforts, the genre (or is it a lifestyle? or a kind of clothing?) has yet to properly be defined. At least, until now.

Thankfully, the debates can now be settled courtesy of a new site called "Is This Band Punk?" The search engine is fairly simple — you just enter in a band's name and find out whether or not they're a punk band.

The results are fairly ruthless, with popular Canadian bands like Fucked Up and Japandroids failing to meet the imaginary criteria of a punk band. Groups like the Sex Pistols, NOFX and Rancid are designated punk, however.

Anyway, now that the experts have spoken there's no point of debating whether or not something is punk anymore. After all, punk is all about respecting authority.

Test out whether or not your favourite band is punk here.
