Thee Silver Mt. Zion Memorial Orchestra Plot Record Store Day 12-Inch and New EP

Fans of Montreal's Thee Silver Mt. Zion Memorial Orchestra might still be processing the band's latest album, Fuck Off Get Free We Pour Light on Everything, but according to lead vocalist/guitarist Efrim Menuck, more new music is on the way.

"We just finished recording a Record Store Day 12-inch, and that'll be out through Constellation," Menuck tells Exclaim! "We recorded it over the holidays. And then, probably in the springtime, there's a long EP that we just finished recording. We've actually been writing a lot of stuff."

Between SMZ and his other band, Godspeed You! Black Emperor, Menuck has indeed been keeping busy, touring the world over and seemingly only interrupting his travels to release new recordings. He says he doesn't anticipate a real break because "too much work is a good problem to have," but also refutes the idea that his artistic life might be born of restlessness.

"I get the thing when I first get home from tour where I feel like I can't function in the human world," he says with a chuckle. "Then that gradually falls away and I really enjoy being at home. And then, inevitably, when I reach that level of comfort, I have to leave again. But I don't get restless, no."

He adds, "I feel like the band is in a good place. I feel good about things."

That "good place" will become many when the band hit the road on their extensive North American tour this spring.
