The Silver Dollar Room Is Hosting an In-Person Show at Its New Location

"Unfortunately anybody who comes in person won't be allowed to dance, we'll socially distance everyone, masks are mandatory and have hand sani at the ready!"

When it was announced that longstanding Toronto music venue the Silver Dollar Room was going to close in May 2017, it was merely the beginning of a chain of closures that have ravaged the city's arts and culture scenes over the past few years, including CoalitionHugh's Room LiveCadillac LoungeDouble Double LandUNIUN NightclubFaith/VoidD-Beatstro, the Hideoutthe Beaver and Orbit Room (not to mention last week's announcement of a proposed development on Sneaky Dee's).

Now, the Silver Dollar Room is coming back in a new location, and it will be inaugurating the space with a live show in a few weeks.

According to a recent Facebook event listing, local rockers BBQ Pope will be performing at the Dollar's new space at Queen St. and Lansdowne Ave. on October 1, the legitimacy of which has been corroborated by the venue's existing Facebook page.

There will be 40 tickets to watch the band perform in-person — while the ticket purchase page initially stated that in-person tickets could be purchased by anyone online, recent updates now suggest that these tickets will be sold by invitation only. Tickets to livestream the show are also available for purchase.

Say the band on Facebook, "Unfortunately anybody who comes in person won't be allowed to dance, we'll socially distance everyone, masks are mandatory and have hand sani at the ready!"

As The Toronto Star reported last November, a liquor license application for the new space appeared last year, and longtime Silver Dollar owner David Yarmus was involved with the operation. The venue's original location at College St. and Spadina Ave. was granted heritage designation by the City of Toronto in 2015, and a venue space in that location was set to be included in the redevelopment. It is yet to be seen how the existence of a Silver Dollar Room in a different location will affect the initial plans.
