In the last year, Canada has become home for more than 27,000 Syrian refugees, and now musicians are teaming up in Hamilton to welcome newcomers to the city with a huge benefit concert put on by Supercrawl Productions.
Fittingly dubbed "Welcome to Hamilton," the event will take place on June 3 at New Vision United Church. The National, Hayden, Kevin Drew, Max Kerman (Arkells) and Terra Lightfoot are all slated to perform, with cameo appearances from Crystal Journey and Mother Tareka.
The star-studded lineup was put together by Hamilton native and the National's manager Brandon Reid and his partner Amanda, and all proceeds will go towards funding music, art and recreational programming for newcomer youth. The money raised will be dispensed by Wesley Urban Ministries, an agency dedicated to the resettlement of refugees that offers a range of integration services.
Tickets to the special concert go on sale this Friday (May 13) at 10 a.m. local time, and will go for $100. You can purchase tickets online, or at Hamilton retailers Dr. Disc, Revolution Records and Picks & Sticks Music.
Full event information will be available at the Supercrawl website.
The National also happened to be the musical guests on last night's (May 9) episode of The Late Show with Stephen Colbert. The band performed a cover of the Grateful Dead's "Morning Dew" from the massive Day of the Dead box set they curated. The compilation is out on May 20 via 4AD, but you can check out their recent television performance right now in the player below.
