Before getting "Physical" and starring in Grease, Olivia Newton-John was scaling the charts as a pop-country singer-songwriter, ruffling the feathers of genre purists in the process. Now, the late artist has received a tribute from some fellow trailblazing hitmakers in the Chicks

At the final date of their North American tour over the weekend (August 13), the trio worked a cover of Newton-John's "Hopelessly Devoted to You" into their setlist at the Gorge Amphitheatre in George, WA.

"We lost a worldwide sweetheart last week," lead singer Natalie Maines told the crowd of the late star. "I thought I was Olivia Newton-John from, like, four until 12. And then I just wished I was Olivia Newton-John from then on."

You can watch the Washington crowd sing along with the Chicks in fan-shot footage found below.

Newton-John passed away August 8 in Southern California. She was 73.

The Chicks' North American tour marked the group's first since dropping "Dixie" from their name. In 2020, the trio of Natalie Maines, Martie Maguire and Emily Strayer released eighth album Gaslighter.

In 2019, it was reported that a Grease spinoff series dubbed Rydell High was in development — a project that has since moved from HBO Max to Paramount+.
