The Catamounts

"Swamp Creature vs. the Banshee"

BY Sarah MurphyPublished Sep 23, 2016

Winnipeg surf-rock revivalists the Catamounts are readying their latest album St Nuomatac for release next month, and Exclaim! is introducing you to the new material by premiering "Swamp Creature vs. the Banshee."

As the title implies, it's a pretty adventurous, action-packed track, showing off the group's eclectic influences that range from pop to jazz to prog to baroque — and even Greek Rebetiko. Hints of each are scattered throughout the forthcoming album, though it's the band's obvious affection for surf rock that wraps it all together into a neat, infectiously listenable package of tunes.

The four-piece will debut more new material at a hometown album release show on October 8 at the Good Will Social Club. Before that, though, get acquainted with St Nuomatac by listening to LP cut "Swamp Creature vs. the Banshee" in the player below.
