Experimental San Francisco unit Thao & the Get Down Stay Down recently unveiled plans for their next album A Man Alive, and now they've shared a new clip for album cut "Astonished Man."
Thematically, the album tackles frontwoman Thao Nguyen's complicated relationship with her father, while sonically, it explores a creative partnership with tUnE-yArDs mastermind Merrill Garbus. "Astonished Man" exemplifies that new direction, hearing the band toy with synthesizers and manipulated instrumentation underneath an expressive vocal performance from Nguyen.
The accompanying video is an artistic interpretation of the track, serving up jarring shots of Nguyen delivering the song into the camera, mixed with slightly spookier scenes involving hooks, knives and fake blood.
A Man Alive is out on March 4 through Ribbon Music. Watch the clip for "Astonished Man" in the player below.
