Taylor Swift has shared a hand-written note expressing her grief over a fan's death at one of her Eras Tour stops in Brazil.
Swift played Estadio Nilton Santos in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, on Friday (November 17). A fan, 23-year-old Ana Clara Benevides Machado, felt unwell at the venue. First responders treated her at the scene before she was transferred to the local Salgado Filho Hospital. She died soon after.
Swift wrote on her Instagram story, "It is with a shattered heart that I say we lost a fan earlier tonight before my show. I can't even tell you how devastated I am by this." She went on to write that she wouldn't be addressing the tragedy from the stage "because I feel overwhelmed by grief when I even try to talk about it."
Brazil has been experiencing a heat wave; Rio de Janeiro reached a maximum temperature of 31 C yesterday and remained close to 30 C late into the evening.
Fan-shot footage from the concert showed Swift pausing the performance to alert security to fans who needed water.
