Taylor Swift Donates More Than $100,000 to LGBTQ Advocates in Tennessee
It comes as the state is tabling a "slate of hate" against LGBTQ people in the legislature
Published Apr 09, 2019Taylor Swift is continuing to make her political and social beliefs public, this time donating more than $100,000 USD to the Tennessee Equality Project.
The Reputation singer gave $113,000 USD to the organization, which fights for LGBTQ equality and rights in the state.
In a handwritten letter, Swift said she is "so inspired by the work you do," pointing specifically to a recent petition that included faith leaders in Tennessee taking a stand against the "slate of hate" in the state legislature.
Amongst the six controversial bills are proposals to allow adoption agencies to discriminate against same-sex couples, take legal action against trans people who use washrooms according to their gender identity and ban same-sex marriages.
Swift thanked the Tennessee Equality Project and participating faith leaders for its work, before closing, "I'm so grateful that they're giving all people a place to worship."
