Land of Talk have dropped the titular single off their forthcoming EP Calming Night Partner, due to arrive November 12 on Dine Alone Records/Saddle Creek. A bathed-in-blue video accompanies the EP's second single.
The song encapsulates the album DNA of the EP, where tender sounds juxtapose violent imagery to produce something utterly unique. Guelph, ON's Elizabeth Powell ushers us in with reverb-inflected guitar strumming as she descends into sonic darkness: "Was it a knife fight? / Was it a lifetime? / Did she wear you down, wear you in, sacrificial? / Did she tear you right down the middle?"
Directed by Land of Talk and AITSO, the "Calming Night Partner" video is as immersive as the song, pulling viewers into the confusion. A single figure dances in contemporary fashion, proliferating and mesmerizing. The blue colour palette reflects the trauma and pain of recent years, but the lulling vocals suggest healing is possible.
"Calming Night Partner" follows the release of the single "Moment Feed" and suggests big things from the indie rockers' new EP.
