Tanya Tagaq

Montreal QC October 3 to 7

Though I’ve seen Tanya Tagaq in person before, I’m still not sure what "it” is, nor if "liking it” is the right term. Turning the traditional two-person art of throat singing into an utterly unique one-diva show is a feat, and Tagaq owns the stage. From tiny whimpers to full-on screams, with rhythmic breathing adventures in the middle, she locks in your focus. With Vancouver DJ Michael Red filling in the gaps and dropping beats over the breaths, plus a random beatboxer who jumped on a stage at show’s end and killed it, it was a spectacle you should see at least once in your life.
