Tanika Charles Gears Up for Her 'Soul Run,' Premieres "Two Steps"

BY Gregory AdamsPublished Apr 13, 2016

After introducing us to the title track from her Soul Run LP last fall, Edmonton-raised, Toronto-based soul singer Tanika Charles has now confirmed the rest of the album is just around the corner. Her debut album will be delivered May 10.

The full-length collection follows 2010's What! What? What!? EP, with a press release noting that this latest 10-song set is "at times endearingly abrasive" and presents the soul singer as "honest in her vulnerabilities."

Soul Run is said to be quite autobiographical, with the previously premiered title track being "a tale of withered romance and high octane escape."

Production was handled by the likes of Slakah the Beatchild (Glenn Lewis, Melanie Durrant), Daniel Lee (Hooded Fang, Phedre), Emdee and 2nd Son (allie), Christopher Sandes (the Big Sound), and Big Tweeze (Theo 3, Adam Bomb). The album was later mastered at Toronto's João Carvalho Studio by Bryan Lowe.

Charles has also now unveiled a second single from the set, "Two Steps." You'll find the bouncy, classic soul piece below, where you'll also find Soul Run's tracklisting and a clutch of concert dates that will have Charles supported by her longtime backup band, the Wonderfuls.
