Sun Kil Moon Get Steve Shelley, Will Oldham, Owen Ashworth for 'Benji'

Mark Kozelek has already had an incredibly prolific 2013, having released a solo album, live set, collaborative LP with Jimmy LaValle, and team-up with Desertshore. It looks as if 2014 will be another productive year for the songwriter, since he's announced plans to release a new album with his band Sun Kil Moon. Benji is out on February 4 through Kozelek's own Caldo Verde label.

A handful of notable guests will appear on the album, including Will Oldham, Sonic Youth's Steve Shelley, Postal Service collaborator Jen Wood, and former Casiotone for the Painfully Alone songwriter Owen Ashworth. Caldo Verde's website describes the album like this: "Recorded between March and August 2013, Mark Kozelek sings about his childhood years and his life today." Song titles will be announced in December.

In the meantime, the hypnotically morbid album cut "Richard Ramirez Died Today of Natural Causes" is streaming over at Pitchfork. It features Shelley. You can also listen to the Oldham team-up "I Can't Live Without My Mother's Love," which was released this summer and will presumably be on the new album.

Kozelek will be touring internationally in the coming months. He's also announced a few Sun Kil Moon shows for 2014, including a Vancouver gig on February 22. See the band's schedule below, and check out Kozelek's solo itinerary here

Tour dates:

02/20 Portland, OR - Aladdin Theater

02/21 Seattle, WA - Neptune Theatre
