Sorry Drake: Poll Proves That No One Actually Calls Toronto "the Six"

Like "fetch" and "on fleek" before it, some folks have been trying their damnedest to force other slang on us. Specifically, they want to make Toronto's official city nickname "the 6." The whole thing started when Drake began referring to the city by that name on his mixtape If You're Reading This It's Too Late. Thirsty marketers, brand consultants and narcs will lead you to believe "the 6" is now the most lit nickname ever, fam. That said, the truth is that no one's really using it in real life.

The Toronto Star points to a Forum Research poll that suggests 75 percent of Torontonians refer to their city as, well, Toronto. If you ask us, that's certainly a better name than "the 6," Hogtown or the dreaded airport code nickname that too many other cities love to employ (in Toronto it's YYZ).

Of the 864 people polled, only 7 percent said that they refer to Toronto as "the 6," "the six" or, the most groan-worthy spelling of all, "the 6ix."

Other nicknames that popped up were the simple "T.O.," the heart-warming "home" and, in reference to Shawn Desman's lasting legacy, "the T-dot."
