Soccer Mommy Announces Sophomore Album 'color theory'

Hear the newly shared song "circle the drain"

Soccer Mommy will release her second full-length album, color theory, on February 28 via Loma Vista. Alongside the album announcement, the project has given us the new song "circle the drain."

The record by the artist born Sophia Allison follows 2018's Clean and was written primarily while she was on the road touring.

According to a press release, the new songs span three central themes, represented by colours: blue, standing for sadness and depression; yellow, symbolizing physical and emotional illness; and finally, grey, for darkness, emptiness and loss.

"I wanted the experience of listening to colour theory to feel like finding a dusty old cassette tape that has become messed up over time, because that's what this album is: an expression of all the things that have slowly degraded me personally," Allison said in a statement. "The production warps, the guitar solos occasionally glitch, the melodies can be poppy and deceptively cheerful. To me, it sounds like the music of my childhood distressed and, in some instances, decaying."

Listen to "circle the drain" down below, where you'll also find the complete 10-song tracklisting for color theory. The song follows the previously released "yellow is the color of her eyes."

Soccer Mommy will take the new album on tour this spring, including previously announced stops in Montreal and Toronto. See the full list of upcoming shows.
