After their recording studio, RBRTH clothing shop and Savage Kids storefront burned down in a devastating Vancouver fire last week, the blows keep coming for Snotty Nose Rez Kids: CBC and APTN have revealed that they've withdrawn from the hip-hop duo's scripted comedy TV show, which had originally been scheduled to premiere this year.
"Unfortunately, we simply don't really know what happened here," Yung Trybez and Young D wrote in a statement to The Globe and Mail. "We felt the show was in a good place. We had a great team put together and good scripts, and we were taken aback by CBC's decision not to move ahead."
After confirming on Monday (April 28) that the network would not be moving ahead with the show, CBC public relations manager Simon Bassett referred the publication's follow-up questions to APTN.
"This decision was not made lightly, and we deeply appreciate the dedication and hard work of all parties involved," Joëlle Saltel, communication manager at the national Indigenous broadcaster, told The Globe and Mail. "Various creative, logistical and financial factors have led to this difficult decision."
Yung Trybez and Young D said they're currently looking for a new home for the series, which was inspired by their lives as best friends from the Haisla Nation who moved to Vancouver to chase their hip-hop dreams: "We haven't given up on this and we'll get this show made. We're used to setbacks, but we always persevere."
Thankfully, it hasn't been all bad news for the SNRK camp, as they were announced as the support for PUP's upcoming North American tour earlier this week. You can donate to the GoFundMe to help Yung Trybez and Young D rebuild after the fire; as of press time, the campaign has raised just over $18,000 of its $20,000 goal.
