Smashing Pumpkins Put Out Open Call For Drummers

BY Brock ThiessenPublished Mar 31, 2009

If you've always dreamt of becoming a Smashing Pumpkin, you now have your shot. Late Monday (March 30), the band — essentially only Billy Corgan at this point — put out an open call for a new drummer, announcing auditions will take place April 10 in L.A.

According to the press release from the Smashing Pumpkins camp, interested parties "should send their background info, photos and performance web links via email only to: pumpkinsdrummer@gmail.com. "So, if you want in, you better get on it toot sweet and start practising those stick twirls.

As previously reported, the Smashing Pumpkins recently announced the departure of long-time drummer Jimmy Chamberlin, leaving Corgan the only original member. Chamberlin said: "I can no longer commit all of my energy into something that I don't fully possess." But, hey, that doesn't mean you can't, right?

In another bit of Pumpkins news, Corgan has apparently found himself a new bassist. In an update on the Smashing Pumpkins website, the post says Corgan has began working with Mark Tulin, who, believe or not, is from '60s psych rock legends and Nuggets heroes the Electric Prunes. Now, try to wrap your head around that.
