Smashing Pumpkins' Billy Corgan Joins Cameo to Raise Money for Cats

The frontman will record 100 personalized messages on the platform, donating funds to no-kill shelter PAWS Chicago

With Christmas around the corner, Billy Corgan is looking out for your shopping list's Smashing Pumpkins fans and cat-lovers alike: the musician has joined celebrity video message platform Cameo to raise money for PAWS Chicago.

Corgan and his partner Chloe Mendel have joined the app for a limited time in an effort to contribute to their favourite cause — a no-kill shelter in the singer-songwriter's hometown.

The pair will be recording 100 personalized video messages for fans, which can be purchased for $318 CAD. Or, if you want to take your gift a festive step further, Corgan will play an acoustic Christmas song for $5,715 under the platform's "for business" tier (total quantity limited to two).

According to the description on their profile, each Cameo video purchased will also come with a mystery surprise — one of which "may be something special courtesy of Reverend Guitars." The Detroit-born, Toledo-based company makes a Billy Corgan Signature axe, priced at around $1,559 USD.

All proceeds from Corgan and Mendel's video messaging endeavour will be donated to PAWS. The shelter's model aims to bring an end to the killing of homeless pets, and the frontman has been an avid supporter of the cause for many years.

Someone's clearly gunning for the nice list.

This summer, Smashing Pumpkins announced an archival effort titled Live at the Viper Room 1998. 2021 has also seen Corgan in the studio with Code Orange, as well as reminding us how much he influenced Nirvana and Pearl Jam around the 30th anniversary of Gish.
